Community Book Group: Inside of a Dog

Book Selection: Inside of a Dog
Guest Speaker: Dr. David Shuman, DVM & Linda Puzziferro, Santa Cruz Animal Services

As part of our quarterly Community Book Group panel series, we invite you to join us for a discussion of Alexandra Horowitz’s book, Inside of a Dog.

Horowitz, a cognitive scientist, explains how dogs perceive their daily worlds, each other, and that other quirky animal, the human. She introduces the reader to dogs' perceptual and cognitive abilities and then draws a picture of what it might be like to "be" a dog. What is it like to be able to smell not just every bit of open food in the house but also to smell sadness in humans, or even the passage of time?

Julie Minnis will lead our discussion, bringing in topics from the book and facilitating dialogue and questions between audience members and our panel members: Dr. David Shuman (beloved veterinarian from the Westside Animal Hospital) and Linda Puzziferro from Santa Cruz Animal Services. Dr. Shuman and Ms. Puzziferro will add their own expertise and insight from years of working with dogs.

Inside of a Dog is discounted 10% off its cover price until the July 16th meeting date.

P.S. There will be snacks and tea. And, yes, your four-legged friends are also welcome!
