In celebration of Santa Cruz’s annual Wharf to Wharf run, Bookshop Santa Cruz welcomes local author John Hofacre. A member of the Santa Cruz Track Club and a regionally ranked (age-graded) 5-kilometer runner, John has participated in over 30 Wharf to Wharf runs. His Wharf to Wharf cartoon appears in the Santa Cruz Sentinel prior to the Wharf to Wharf event. As an architect, he previously co-wrote and illustrated Village Homes, Solar House Designs, published by Rodale Press.
The Running Joke Cartoon has appeared and been enjoyed worldwide on the Runner's World magazine website and locally in the Santa Cruz Sentinel. The Senior Editor at Runner's World, Jeff Dengate, comments, "The Running Joke Cartoon Book is masterful at capturing the absurdity and hilarity of our everyday running lives."
The book contains 52 cartoons that includes everything important in an athlete's life... shoes, medals, course maps, wine barrels, UFO's, vultures, snakes and bears (oh, my)... and maybe most important for runners... a cartoon with a psychiatrist. The author/artist, John Hofacre, will talk about the book, the artwork, the joy of running, participating in running events and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. It's motivational, inspirational and funny. Laughter (and exercise) are the best medicines!
